It was my wife's idea that I should wear the kilt. She has Scottish ancestry, rather than my Irish ancestry, and is very proud of her clan.
However, she isn't in favour of me wearing the kilt out of the house, except for specific events. She also doesn't wear her own clan tartan to speak of, although I think she has a scarf somewhere.

Mrs. Kiltman likes me in a kilt. She even likes the smiles from all the ladies who see me in it.

My boy friend of 39 years didn't like me wearing kilts at first (in 2001), but now he is used to it, and prefers tartans above Utilikilts. He refuses to wear one himself.

I can understand prefering the tartan kilts, and even somewhat traditional attire... It's kind of funny to think about because I've been single for so long now.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

My wife is even more excited about it now. After she did a trace on her family history and discovered she and many of her family were a part of the MacIntyre Clan, she's all about it. In fact, she wants me and my son to get kilts in her clan tartan now. Who am I to argue?!?

It is comforting to read that many of you have started off with a wife/girlfriend who is negative to the kilt and gradually making her liking or accepting it.
I am just aprox 6 months in to my kilted way of life and my wife hates it and goes "Oh no, you got to stop this kilt nosense" like this is some kind of 40 age crisis. I assure you, its definetly not a mid life crisis. The kilt is for life.
My 2 daughters are embarrassed and goes nuts when I'm kilted, but my son thinks its cool. He is a Korn fan, and the frontfigure of the band often apear kilted.
I find the negative attitude from the females in my family somewhat stange, as the reactions from others are very positive. It can have something to do with all the attention the kilt generates. The girls hates the thought of me being different from the ordinary.
I'm glad that my mission to convert others to the kilt is prosperous. more and more of my friends and colleagues has taken an interest in the kilt, and several are considering buying one. I also get a lot of feedback on my website.

Regarding my kilt wearing my wife is still not the supportive type of wife but over the years (about 12) she has become more and more tolerant. At first she was strictly against me wearing a kilt where I might meet people we know but now she fully accepts that I also wear a kilt in our own neighbourhood. Sometimes we will even be walking hands in hands and with me in a kilt but then mostly far from home.
She never have had objections to me wearing the kilt inside home.

I've been wearing kilts since January this year. My wife never strongly objected to my wearing a kilt but she didn't support me either. Then yesterday as the wife and I were walking out of the Sac. Scottish Games (I was in a SportKilt in Buchanan) she said "of all the kilts you own, I like this one the best." My other kilts are all khaki contemporary types that I wear more than this one. Then at home she tells me she wants me to eventually own a traditional kilt with all the extras; jackets, sporrans, hose, etc. Being at the games, seeing more traditional kilts, must have changed her mind. Either that or she's gone insane.

It's insanity. It's contagious. She got it from you. There is no cure, only the need to kilt more and more and more. Enjoy it!
