Ahem! It's what is known as the "Roman Purple", (what we normally term 'purple' is actually Violet-with a blue cast to it. It's also often termed "Pontifical Purple"; Bishops wear robes of that 'maroon' colour. Wear it with pride, but don't blame me if people start genuflecting as you stroll by. Give 'em a blessing & they'll go away rejoicing.

The start of the female gendering of pink (and exclusion from the male wardrobe) in America and parts of Europe is no earlier than the 1940s or 1950s. Its, however, accepted as a predominantly male colour in many countries including parts of the Commonwealth. Pink, for example, has long been a very popular colour in Bermuda for shorts (which, not unlike the kilt, are worn with sports coat and knee socks). It is considered a formal and not leisure colour (a range of prints). Bermuda shorts are business and formal attire. They are, like the kilt, a national dress. Bermuda shorts too are considered exclusively male garments. Both evolved from British military uniforms (many of our notions and styles for kilts can be traced to the army). The female counterpart (not considered proper business dress for women) are longer (knee length) and narrow-cut.

I must have missed those pics of the completed product when they were first posted.

Looking good, Panache, and it certainly looks maroon rather than pink on my monitor.

That thing in the background of the pic immediately above is a freak wave effect, caused by the wind whipping through the Great Glen and churning up the waters of Loch Ness.

    Wink McMurdo's next kilt

Come on, McMurdo. You know you've got your heart set on having a kilt of this camo colour, to contrast with your Isle of Skye.

Grant would be ticked, though, 'cause you'd get all of the kilt checks.
