I really, really enjoyed the first few books in the Outlander series. I havent read all of them yet but will soon. Diana did a great job in incorperating history into the story and for the most part, as far as I know, its pretty accurate.

If your into Jacobites, sword fights, and ruff tough Highlanders, you will like it!

The only weird thing is, is that the books are written from a women's(Claire's) perspective so the romantic scenes are a little uncomfortable to a hetrosexual male.

I'm very excited to see the TV series! You end up becoming friends with the characters and miss them after not reading for a while.
I do hafta say I would not be comfortable watching the series with my sons. The first episode was pretty explicit......loved it though.

As to the kilt, I agree Jaime should have been wearing Fraser tartan. That point is very obvious in the books. Mentioned several times throughout.

I still caint see Sam as Jaime. Sam seems smaller and not as rough as Jaime should be. I still think Chris Hemsworth would have been perfect but he isnt local to where they are filming and is a big star(expensive).
i think Sam makes a perfect Jamie!

What will be the glue is the hatred most people will share for Tobias. And he will be great at cultivating that villainy, methinks.
Tobias was the perfect pick! Plays both Randall parts perfectly...at least in episode one.

I find that she brings her characters ( mostly the main ones) so much "to life", that I now find many other writers too "two-dimensional", to enjoy reading.
As for her historical accuracy, I find she does a pretty good job, but more than that, she has stimulated me to learn even more about the historical periods and settings she writes about.
Finally, as for the TV series: first I haven't had TV for almost 30 years, plus, I am somewhat afraid to watch, for fear of having the novels "spoiled" for me, by the ( admittedly necessary) ' editing', required to reduce a substantial novel into a TV series.
Not sure if I'll succumb to the temptation to watch it ( somehow, not sure how).
Anyway, I find her writing immensely enjoyable; I'm "additicted", and am already Jonesing for the next book , probably 3 or 4 years away
Have you read any of her shorter novels expanding on individual characters? I haven't yet......but plan to Wishlist them on Amazon.

As far as I can establish YouTube just provides this link to register "free" for Goshplay, but only for 5 days. A search on Goshplay for Outlander turns up nothing. after 5 days they will charge the credit card you require to register. Think this may be a scam.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Hawk, the first episode is viewable on Starz.com. I have heard the series will be available on DVD but no time soon. The Starz first season of 16 episodes is being broken into two batches of showing, the first 8 now and the second 8 after the first of the year sometime.

As for the characters.... Sam as Jamie, Sam IS big and tall, and rough and red headed. As for Graham McTavish (and Gary Lewis) playing the McKenzie brothers.... the characters are Jamie's uncles, Jamie is in 23, they would have at least been in their 50s and the 1700 where not as kind to aging as time is now. Diana has Claire speak of how old people look due to the harshness of life quite a bit. The only character I'm having trouble with is Cait playing Claire, and I'm not sure why.

As for the sexual content.... If you have read the books it's a big part of them and it's going to get more "interesting" so be warned. It's also on pay TV so it's not surprising that there is nudity and blood and guts.

I'm looking forward to Episode 102 Castle Leoch!
