    Merci. Thank you.

I'm afraid it's an obsession... but a healthy one, I would say.

I seem to notice that there have been no real contributors to this thread in way of pictures. Robert, you are only ONE of the people I would LOVE to see show off their levels of kilted formality. Come on chaps let's bring back he good olde days.

Why not post some pics of yourself?

I recently made a separate thread for my contribution to showing the kilt at different levels of formality:

I'm just waiting for my new custom made outfit before posting my set of pictures. It should be around October.

Awesome post. Thanks for the "visual" dress examples.

A "day plaid" or "laird's plaid" would be much more appropriate for day wear.

I like it ( Day Plaid ) I am going to look into getting one , Thank You

It apears to be laid over and not pinned . and made of a Muted or wheather
Plaid .... very nice , all so may be a Sheperds plaid ???? very nice

    Thomas,

Here are some of my thoughts regarding day plaids. If you are going to wear one and not look silly...

They must only be worn when outside

They must only be worn if you are going to have need of a blanket (i.e. it is either cold or you need a place to sit/have a picnic)

They must be simply folded and tossed over one's shoulder

The thought behind them should be less "fashion accessory" and more "I'm just carrying this blanket that I need in a convenient way"

I do not have a matching tartan day plaid, but I do have a wool fashion tartan blanket that I use as one on occasion. It is great for camping on cold mornings

From a camping trip this summer at China Camp state park

The other day I went to watch our local high school marching band perform. Though not kilted (but wearing a good tweed blazer and my beloved tweed bucket hat- J.S!), as I headed out the door I noticed how a cold wind was picking up and the dark clouds were forming overhead. I grabbed my unbrella and tossed the folded blanket over my shoulder. It kept me warm on the stands and protected me from the rain that fell as the show concluded and I walked home. A few people sitting next to me looked jealous as they shivered on the stands! Though dated and nowadays replaced by waterproof outerwear, they are certainly still useful in the right circumstances.

The key is to think of the day plaid as a functional item. You don't wear it because it looks nice, you carry it on your shoulder because you are going to need it and this is the easiest way to lug it around.

    Cheers

    Jamie
