I spent more than 100 days without wearing a pants from September 15-December 23rd, 2003. Then put them on to make somebody else happy and I regretted it.
So December 28, 2003 I took off the accursed things and after 4-5 months, I've given them all away to the Idaho Youth Ranch (with the exception of the pants I was married in which I've kept for sentinmental reasons).
Change is always as a little scary, but if it's the right thing to do and you've thought it out and prayed out like I did, I had a peace about it and life just goes on like normal.

In my case it was not a, "That's it with trowsers," but rather a gradual process.
I had been interested in getting a kilt for years. I wanted to get married in one, but due to logistical reasons, I finally gave up on that. However, my wife had nine yards of Aberdeen Tartan woven for me as a wedding present. I ended up making a great kilt rather than paying for a more common small kilt. I wore it probably 3-4 times a year (ren fest, hallowen, a couple of times to a celtic fest), but that was all.
In 2000 we were in Scotland, and the quest for a cheap kilt began. I succeded (a Thomas Gordon and Sons kilt) but still only wore it a few times that year. Partially because it was so expensive (I still got a great deal on it) and partially because it didn't seem to be an everyday garmet (cleaning, all the accessories).
Finally about a year later I learned of Utilikilts. I bought one, not really knowing if I would wear it very often. When I first got it, I started wearing it on the set of a film I was shooting, and it was great to work in. I was still a little afraid of general reaction (though I wore it almost everywhere when I was not at my full time job). About a month later, we were getting ready for church one Sunday, and I realized that I didn't have any dress clothes clean. To my surprise my wife said, "Just put on your kilt."
A few weeks later (on an extremely warm day in November), I decided that it was probably my last chance to wear it before really cold weather, so wore it to my full time job for the first time. I actually expected to be either sent home or at least told not to wear it again. Instead, after a little teasing by co-workers, it was not mentioned at all. Wow, to church, work, Home Depot, etc. and no negative reactions.
Then the really bizarre. I started being aksed where was the kilt when I wasn't wearing it (at places like Blockbuster and the Kroger) people recognised me as being the kilt guy.
That Christmas, I got a second UK, which made life much easier since I could wash one and wear one. By then I had also realized that cold is really not a factor (with good socks and a long coat), so I was wearing a UK 2-3 time a week to work.
Since then, I have left the full time job, and now have 12 kilts total (8 UK and 1 PK - which are really more practical for working, 1 Stillwater - for semi dress affairs, and the formal and great kilts). I do wear them almost all the time. I do still have pants for occasions that need them (I shot a home improvement/reality show last summer and wore pants whenever they were painting)(my wife has also requested on occasion that I wear pants: a few weddings, to meet her boss, but that has only been maby a dozen times in the last three years).
When I bought my first UK, I had no idea that they would take over my life. I actually have more kilts now than I have ever owned pants at any given time, and I want more.

I have included kilts in my everyday wardrobe and I have yet to abandon my pants/shorts yet. It will never happen. For some of the atheletic activaties that I do, it makes sense to wear pants/shorts. But I have to say that I spend around 50% in my kilts.
Also, I do go around doing businesses in my kilt. I have attended numerous networking events and client meetings in kilts. It is hard not to make a lasting impression.
However, I plan to do a few 10k runs kilted this year.
