What do wives wear -follow up

Interesting thread, but being new to the kilting, I am interested to know how many out there are permanently in kilts? I've worn my for as many occasions as I can make excuses to my wife for, but not at the stage of taking the plunge yet?
What goes through the mind to suddenly decide 'That's it to trousers!'?

When you've worn your kilt a number of times and then decide to, for whatever reason, to put on a pair of pants, you keep getting asked "where's the kilt today?" You are then pretty much on the road to wearing your kilts full time.

Phil, I stopped wearing trousers completely last March. I don't miss em a bit. Kilts are just much more comfortable and, honestly, mostly it's been a nonevent. My wife thinks it's pretty nice and is fully supportive and in public most folks don't think anything of it. Of those that do notice the reaction is overwhelmingly positive.

    Phil,

Like Robert said, people that know me make a comment when I do not wear a kilt. It is just a matter of what people come to consider "normal".

As I find it too cold to wear a kilt now, I get the comments, "It must be too cold to wear your kilt." I even get this in the local Scottish shop.

when I decided to stop wearing pants in november 2002, my wife had mixed feelings, she loved the access, but didnt love the attention. she felt that she was the one being looked at, and would get upset if anyone would try and make fun of me (I didnt give a damn, but it bothered her. I actually did takenotice to whom made fun of me, it was in interesting study of which types of people felt threatened by my kilt)

but now that it has been realized that I'm not giving it up, all is well....and she still loves the access

My wife, in common with most UK women, prefers to wear trousers and jeans, with shorts in summer. She wears trousers at work. However, she knows I like to see her in a skirt, so has bought a couple recently (calf length) which she wears when I'm around. What a sweetie.

Comfort plain and simple. Working behind a grill is hot sweaty work and wearing my Victory kilt is sooooo much better than trousers. Plus everytime I put on pants I feel like the boys are being squeezed in a vice

Has it really been four years? I wear kilts almost all the time. So much that I sometimes wear trousers just to wear something different.

My wife wears dresses, skirts and jumpers - or nothing when she can get away with it, being that she's a nudist.

She won't wear kilts though. Like me, she sees the kilting thing as a men's social movement in its infancy and is supportive of keeping the message clear that kilts are men's clothing. Once we have the wealth, we can share it.

What goes through the mind? Simply, "Boy, that kilt sure is comfortable; why should I wear something that isn't comfortable?" I'm a full-time kilt wearer for over a year now, though I will admit I'm about to start climbing again, so I'll have to wear shorts (a harness won't go easily over a kilt, and I don't want to blind my belayer).

Thanks for all of your explanations. I realise that everyone has different motives but comfort and practicality shine on through! As I have only really worn my kilt for 'events', then the day-to-day aspects will become more evident I'm sure.
I'm off to visit a friend in the snowy hills today. He got married in his kilt over four years ago, but has never worn it since, so I'm off in mine just to get him to dig it out of the wardrobe. Maybe his wife'll appreciate it too
    Cheers all
    Phil
