Great pictures! It looks like a really great dance group. Lots of kilts, too!

The dance and the class are held at an American Legion Hall. This was a smaller more informal dance for our group, the larger ones are held at other venues.

    Cheers

Nice piccies! it seems you have a few men in your group, we struggle to attract men to SCD.

We just had our breakup too, now it's two weeks with no dancing....sad.

When I go SCDing in full formal rig like this I usually find myself discarding the PC jacket and waistcoat after the first dance or so - say by the first strathspey. And I notice that many others take the same approach.

Maybe we are just more uncouth around here. I admire your dedication to good form but the vigorous exercise you get doing 20 dances in rapid succession is enough to soak me in sweat if not well ventilated and that does nothing for my appearance either!

Great photos, James, and Oh, what memories they bring back! I've not danced for about eight years now (no decent groups near enough to where I live!) As Graham points out, you do seem to have no shortage of male dancers there. The last group I was with, had only one other chap besides me - and about thirty ageing women! Getting young people involved in SCD over here is a big problem which the RSCDS is trying to resolve, but without much success. Quite a lot of young children are taught SCD at school but once they become teenagers they just do not want to know! It's so very sad.

I guess you are referring to this period in my life, James, back in the late 1960s:

This was taken at a show I was in at London's Royal Albert Hall in front of over 10,000 people! At least you can remove your jacket if you get too hot, but in those days I wore (especially for show work) the Montrose Doublet, which is double-breasted and does up to the neck. Since I wore only a T-shirt under it, the doublet could never be removed and I just had to suffer the heat. What one does for one's art!!!

There are some really familiar faces in your photos. Perhaps, we too shall meet at a Scottish Country Dance.
