ShawHighlander, great work on the jacket conversion. I believe that it is considered acceptable to have a pc style jacket with a belt as long as you don't wear a vest. The only thing I would change is to go with a black tie instead of a white one.

Yes, it is quite proper to wear a belt with a jacket, but if a waistcoat is worn it doesn't really lay right.

For some reason I think it looks quite fine on other people, but when I tried to wear my formal jacket with just a belt It didn't feel right to me at all.
So it's all up to the individual. When one is dressing up for a night on the town that inner confidence is what really makes an outfit smashing.
