Sideways thought - would kilt wearing increase in the southern US if they took this idea and reproduced the Confederate Stars and Bars in a kilt?

That would be a most interesting experiment, if nothing else. However, I bet you'd merely get a lot of women buying such a kilt as a skirt, sadly.

I'd own one.
Back on tract, I do like the saltire kilts.

Oh man, I posted in the other Saltire kilt thread that I wasnt opposed to the kilt on the grounds that Ive seen enought stars and stripes bikinis to think wearing the nations flag wasnt a bad thing. I may have to retract my statement now do to the nasty mental picture I have because of this thread

I too like the idea of a Confederate saltire kilt. If it was affordable, I would try to save my pennies for one. I was told by some one selling Scottish saltire kilts at highland games that it is the running of the cloth through the loom twice that increases the cost of the saltire weave.
There are already those who wear the Confederate Memorial tartan. I would not be surprised if there was also a market for Confederate saltire kilts.
How people committing to a kilt would it take to have it woven and made? Which mill(s) make the Scottish saltire tartan weave?

Except the flag you are thinking of is not "the Stars and Bars" -- that is either the Confederate naval jack and/or a battle flag (slight variation) used in the Army of Northern Virginia or the Army of Tennessee.
The "stars and bars" is the First National Confederate flag:

Apologies for being "picky", but I dealt with this on an almost daily basis at the battlefield.

I sit corrected and should have know better. I was in Company A, First Maryland Infantry, Army of Northen VA for 3 years.
This was during the 60's. I was thinking the battle flag.
I walked behind the battle flag across a long field up a slop toward a small group of trees in a small town called Gettysburg one hot summer day.
I should say I don't agree with many of the ideas behind the Confederacy but Maryland was at heart a southern state and playing reinactor was a lot of fun for a 15 year old.

Umm...let's not go there, please. I only brought up the whole "stars & bars" thing on a point of information.
Too much has been said already...back to the saltire kilt.
