How do you attach the pommel? Is it just epoxied straight onto the butt of the handle? If so, is it better to rough up the two surfaces, or keep them flat?

I've got a manufacturer that makes them to my specifications. I order them five at a time. I've got 2 more like this and 3 that have been folded more and the pattern is very fine. They are the better blades but I liike the pattern w/ fewer folds. Rab has blades that are more economical when you only need one or two for projects. I had a lot of exotic materials lying around that I figured I could make about ten sgians. I'll make high carbon blades myself but this is beyond my current shop capabilities. O'Neille

The antler isn't too bad just sticky when you start to sweat. My dog goes insane w/ the smell though. Working w/ walrus ivory is like that extra smelly tooth drilling smell from the dentist and it is very hard too. O'Neille

Loctite super glue w/ accelerator. Honestly I've used cheap super glue w/ excellent results. I just flatten everything w/ my disc/belt sander. Make sure it is true and glue to just hold it together and seal the fine seam. So as you can see the handle is complete before epoxy is added in copious amounts. Jam the blade in to force the excess out which makes it all one solid unit. I've used masking tape on the blades to keep the epoxy off and I've also used a little chap stick on the blade by the hilt so the epoxy wipes off easily. O'Neille

I may have to talk to Rab.... I have some caribu thats just ready for something like that. Our current house makes it difficult to get the forge up and running. I've been looking at some of the small gas forges, never used one so I'm having a hard time forking out the $$. Any thoughts?

The extra cut horn looks like a few flat horn sporran clasps, and the end of the horn immediately above right of your epoxy looks like the makings for a very nice kilt pin. What other projects have you got waiting in the wings.

I've toyed w/ the idea building a small forge. I did make a large Damascus hunting knife using my acetylene torch, an old chainsaw blade and a few fire bricks one winter in Minnesota. It was a boatload of work. I'll post a pic sometime.

    I just looked at Rab's site https://www.lochnessorigins.com/acat...omponents.html
Depending on which blade you like best I'm thinking that domestic shipping might make mine close to Rab's price w/ international shipping. O'Neille

That is one nice looking Sgian! Well done! (Now where did I put all of those power tools? I think there are in the garage under boxes.)
