I was a cub scout for a while, and went with my twin brother who has cerebral palsy, when he had had enough of trying to camp and all with the rest we both gave it up. The really incredible thing is in a time when almost every other group would shun him the Scouts welcomed us both with open arms. I think it just got to be too much for him.

I went through Wolf Cubs up to Senior Sixer, then, like Ron, I switched over to Navy Cadets, and spent five years with Navy League Cadets and RCSCC Rainbow. I really enjoyed my time in both organizations. My three sons all went through Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

I worked a couple summers with 'scouting for the handicapped' as it was called at the time. One of the most rewarding things in which I've ever been involved. To make it even more challenging, the boys with whom we worked were from very urban inner city DC. So not only did they have the challenges with which they lived every day, they had never even seen a rural or wooded area in their lives.

I was a cub for two years, then a scout until I graduated high school. My troop never did the merit badges and advancement, but we were famous as the best campers, hikers, etc, in the council. We always won the competitions at camporees, first aid meets and such. Good times.

I have enjoyed the Scouting Program. I am a warrior with the Tribe mic-o-say. I attended the 1981 National Scout Jamboree as Troop Historian. I have one brother who is also an Eagle.

Is an Eagle Scout the same as a Queen's Scout, or is it something like a Senior Scout or Rover Scout?

The Eagle Scout rank is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. The Palm are five merit badges and three months of service per palm after Eagle.
I hope that helps you out.

Scout camp was my first exposure to alcohol and Marijuana.
That being said, I had a lot of fun camping, and I didn't turn into a drunk or a pothead. Some of my fellow scouts did, others did very well in life. I got kicked out when I was fifteen due to insufficient respect for authority and a sense of humor that was not bounded by good taste or safety concerns. I don't blame them a bit.
I ran into my old scoutmaster a few years ago and had a nice chat, he was a good guy.
I think I was Second Class when I was asked to leave.

Due to conflisct with my high school track team, scouting was hard to keep up with. While I did finished all requirements on time, I didn't do my final eagle board until after my 18th birthday. My brother almost made eagle, but local politics and some blatant stupidity quashed those dreams ( the local review board felt that since my family already had one eagle, we didn't need another...very petty in my eyes.)
