Sporrans...
Here's most of the current Sporran collection:
The top images shows my field sporran of 7 ounce full grain mooskin scraps from one of our retail partners. It's lined with suede and has zippered internal security pocket on the larger panels. The matching belt is from American Eagle. After stripping their logo insert, I removed their awful 'antique' finish to learn that the buckle was nicely gilt. I've got the same model cut in a larger pattern with snaps on the gusset that allow it to open to 4" deep. I'll finish that one before our next field event so I don't have to carry a separate shoulder bag for <unmentionable firearm related stuff deleted- hee>.
The lower left one is my semi-dress sporran made from black elk hide and mink. The emblem is a cheap pot metal thistle that I transfer back and forth between it and my el-cheapo rabbit fur dress model. I'm learning about plaster and silicone molds to make my own pewter and silver embellishments for later use. The lower right shows my work-a-day Bison leather sporran for retail shows, with the detail photo of the matching company kilt pin with needle, spool, and waxed cotton thread. I call them my 'field repair kits' since we don't actually make kilts or accessories. I will give presentations wearing tartan as part of the company uniform, so I can write some of my hobby off
For future full dress, I've been curing a piece of elk antler that nicely matches the curve of a cantle. I'll probably mount a slice of it on a shaped copper plate with settings for gems, then silver plate the whole piece and complete it with a coyote fur bag topped by mink tassles. (yeah, we've got a cool scrap collection). That same elk shed yielded several excellent pieces of handle material that are sitting in dye right now. I must find a decent blade so I don't spend time crafting a handle for my dirk, only to have it sit atop and empty sheath- thought that may be allowed at dinner funtions with heavy security. The sgain in my first photo was made with antler from my grandfathers first deer.
More images to come as they shape up.
Kevin.
