Thanks for the nice comment. The cufs are the same width, well give or take half an inch as the leg. As these Kilt hose will go to Ceildhs, Weddings and the like I made them rather snug so the flashes would have such a hard job keeping them up. No, seriously, that is the way the recipient asked for them. Making them a bit looser would be easy enough though. :-D

I have the Pattons pattern but deemed it to boring so I made up my own. I think the Jo Anderson's Pattern is nice, however there seem to be an awful lot of people wearing it... You can have a copy of mine if you asked nicely and your feet are around UK size 9...

This is the hose all gift-wrapped. The luckenbooth is completly hidden when worn. I just thought it makes a nice detail.

I'm in the process of making another pair so any input would be very welcome. In particular I'm curious what pattern are traditional for the turnover. I know about "lattice" and "popcorn"... any more, pictures maybe?

I'm off to make another unpreceeded but pretty pattern any suggestions highly welcome.

(EDIT: The pictures don't display as pictures, hence the links, sorry)

I recently aquired a length of blue DPM for a kilt - and then, yesterday, turning out the bedroom looking for the right shoes, I found 200gm of dark blue double knitting thickness yarn, wool and Nylon - just the thing for some hose to go with it - I put the yarn and cloth together and they are a good match.

I have never been so busy with crafts since I took to wearing the kilt.

I also like the cuffs. I can't figure it out from the picture. It looks like it is knitted sideways and attached. I would like information on the cuff pattern.

    You are right Mark,
the cuff is knitted sideways then joined from the inside and then a normal overknee sock top is picked up from the edge. It is a neat technicque for using a cable horizontally. I have seen people use it on hats and sweaters that's where I got the idea from.

So you're going to knit the hose yourself? I'm impressed. Don't forget to share the results in this forum :-)

If anyone is interested, www.scotpress.com has the Patons kilt hose pattern for sale for $6.95. I ordered it and received it in 4 days. It is not a reprint, but an original pattern.

Question Is kilt hose always "knit"?

Although I haven't tried knitting anything in decades upon decades....I know of someone who does a terrific job with crochet. Thus my question:

are kilt hose always the product of "knitting", or is there such a thing as "crocheted" kilt hose?
