    Again, great minds think alike!

I have a similar line. Since I am a big whopping I tell the fashion police that if my attire offends or in any way fails to please them I will remove it promptly. Tends to snap them out of it. Quickly.

Seriously, I do not know what makes people do what they do. When I was a student taking programming classes at CLC I took the metro back to D.C. late @ nite.

Most of these times any woman on the mostly empty cars would regard me with some sort of contempt or such, clutching their little can of mace. I am a big lad and not easily mistaken for Brad Pitt. (long before I was aware of the power of the kilt...)

Sometimes the ladies would just walk right up to me and start chatting. Finally I figured it out. Apparently ONE TIE in my collection, purchased from a Chinatown street cart, made me look approachable. I renamed the polyester thing the "chick tie" and soldiered on.

It never ceases to amaze me how what I wear seems to have some strange power over complete strangers. Especially within the dark side of the force.

I have to believe at some level there is some projection going on and the wardrobe excuse for the contact - good or bad - is just a "cover story". My best guess circa 0822 hours. Subject to further review of course.

    Best,

    Doug

I had a similar weird experience with an Armani suit. Before you think I'm rich, whatever,... I found it in a thrift store, had a tailor fit it, and for a little over a hundred bucks, I've got an Armani.

In context, that suit does to salesmen, businessmen, and snotty places staff things that my kilt does in the real world. Creepy. Most of my buddies take a while to notice it, actually either clothing. That's why we're buds.

I am not talking about kilts here, I am talking about an attitude that people can interfere with other people, if you think
OK I get it but what I would hypothetically say to the little girl is the same thing I would say to those with an attitude of entitlement like the one you are talking about.
I would tell them that I am X years old and can dress myself, or on the other hand take care of myself, either way the only way people such as these can control me is if I allow them to.

To date, I have not had any experience with anyone trying to tell me what to or not to wear (within reason, of course). I wear a kilt because I want to, and in whatever tartan I want to. If some teenage trollop decides that she can afford to buy me a whole new wardrobe, I'll let her. But, as long as I am footing the bill, it will be for what I like, not her dictates.

She's a sweetheart, probably thought you were English. Anyway, if you're going to having future conversations with her, pm me and we'll set her up with my daughter facebook to facebook. And then we'll sit back and watch the fireworks. Ha.

btw, if you want a Scot's blessings to wear a kilt, you can have mine as long as you promise not to impose American kilt rules on others. That applies to all of you, anybody from back home want to chime in?

    OKay,

Everyone get a grip. We are discussing one person's opinion of another's dress. Every has an opinion, they have a right to it, and we have a right to ignore that opinion. The frustration is understandable, BUT if we followed the crowd to begin with we would be on this website. Take a deep breath and be thankful you were noticed by a young lady.

Actually, I thought we were discussing one person's opinion of another person's opinion of another's dress. I think most are suggesting that he is giving her opinion too much weight.

But she probably didn't deserve some of the nasty names...

Every minute you let the words of someone else affect your life is a minute of your life they have stolen from you.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

I eat at McDonald's. I eat Campbell's soup. I use Scotch tape. I drink Scotch whiskey. I wear kilts.

I think the point our friend was making is about the arrogance some people have in attempting to impose their point of view on others -- using clothing as an example.
