The "By Choice", but the "Not Blood" seems almost negative. And really "By Choice" says it all. Now if you want some a little longer... perhaps something like "Fellowship By Choice". Something that really shows XMTS's open-mindedness and friendly nature.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I'm with Cavscout and Brucek. As is it eliminates those who do have a blood connection with things Scottish. I vote no.

I fail to see this logic about excluding people with Scottish blood at all, choice is inclusive, not exclusive.

The basis of "By Choice, not Blood" was not in regards to those of us with Celtic heritage, it was in regards to the fact that we are all part of the Xmarks "Clan" by choice and not by blood relation to each other. I don't see how it takes away from my heritage.
Now, if it was in reference to the choicing of wearing a kilt, than yes I can see that point. We all choose to wear a kilt, but some of us do to honour our family heritage where as other do it because they look freakin' cool.

People of XMarks be wary. Look who has posted these "polls". None other than Panache! From member to House Chairman to Moderator in just a scant few weeks. I believe that Jamie is seruptiously planning a bloody take over of XMarks. We havn't heard from Mike1 in ages, Highlandtide was probably only let out of the bloody tower to keep up appearances, to stop those of us questioning Panache's motives. HE WANTS TO BE NAMED XMARKS CLAN CHIEF! Perhaps even King then he can install the F-H.C.A.G as queen and make us all wear pink flippin' kilts!!!
Aside from that I vote "By choice, not by blood" Well phrased your Majesty. And thank you Colin I do look cool in a kilt.

You were, of course, my inspiration for that comment, Grant.*

I guess I have a whole different take on this. I believe we are comparing XMarks to a highland clan - MacBeth for example. Now, since no one can trace their genealogy to claim Xmarks membership - membership must be by choice, rather than blood.
If we are comparing XMarks to something like a St. Andrews society then I suppose that would be a different kettle of fish...
Personally I like the motto as is and mean no disrespect with my choice..

You have misunderstood; those with clan connexions have chosen to be loyal to that clan; those without have chosen to be individuals with a mind of their own.
(By the way, I believe that, historically, belonging to a clan did not necessarily imply any "blood" connexion).
