I have had the same problems. I ordered a kilt from them on Aug. 2nd, one of the "off the rack" style. I discussed this via 2 emails and one phone call, all promptly and courteously answered. I was impressed with their service and placed my order on Aug 2.
With no further communication 3 weeks later, I have emailed twice to inquire about the status of my order. No response. Their initial communication was good but has dropped off significantly lately.
I don't mind waiting if necessary. It's the not knowing that is the problem.
Shriner seems to have good experiences--maybe because he is a "volume" buyer.

I have to put in my vote for Stillwater Kilts also. Has anyone ordered the sporran hangers from them? I like that idea as the chain sporran belts seem the make the apron hang different.

Most of us try to avoid chain belts, because over time they'll damage your apron. Either get yourself a pair of hangers, or a leather belt.

Twice I have tried to place an order with them and inquired about what they had is stock, only to be informed that they had a shipment coming in soon.
I am not used to having to work so hard to just place an order. The second time I ended up ordering a kilt from Jerry.

I had ordered mine on the 7th of August. Noticed a comment (on Xmarks) that they would be doing a ship out on the 17th. So I decided that I would give them another week to see if it comes in. As of Monday the 27th I had still not received it. So I emailed Mark, that morning and by the late afternoon he responded and apologized, but did not say when he is going to ship it out. So now at this point i am satisfied. BUT THE JONESING CONTINUES!!!!
I hope to get it soon!
I agree that Stillwater turn around time is about 4 days.. (LOL) if he is busy. I hopefully will give Frugal the benefit of the doubt... But i have some friends who want to order from them, I told them to wait to see how my 'situation' comes out before they order.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that:
a) Stillwater is established and maintains an inventory, while the other is new but offers a wider variety of tartans.
b) Stillwater's site also only allows you to order items currently in stock. I, for one, have been watching their site for the past month waiting for them to get a SWK standard Black Stewart in a 36" waist... it hasn't been available, so I couldn't order. With FC, you could order, but would be waiting until it came in.
Really, the 2 more or less get their stuff from the same places. One, you can't order or pay until its in stock. The other, you CAN order and pay, but may have to wait.
The only thing it really comes down to is communication, and some people's instant-gratification expectations.

I chuckled when I read this. You sum it up nicely.

I agree with MacDougall. Although all I have ever owned is chain sporran straps, I intend to switch to leather soon. The apron and the sides of your kilt can be scraped and damaged. Especially if you ever go dancing.

True, but I think 7 weeks wait for an instock item, and no answer to queries is a bit much to take.

Sort of odd that Mark seems to have given up responding to these threads....
