What is the sett size on this fabric Turpin?

I definitely say the green. If not the green, I'd do it to the Sett.

The sett is 4 inches. So 2 setts would make a good pleat depth, whether to the stripe or sett. Of course my other decision is whether to get it as a 5/6 yarder or full tank. The Davidson I have is about 6 yards and I really like it.

I think the greens have it, and I tend to agree(n).
thanks to all who voiced an opinion. Collective wisdom is a good thing.

I just made one (a 5 yarder) and did it to the thin green stripe. It came out very nice.

I think I know who you did it for, too. IIRC, I sent you that cloth - it came off the same roll as what I have here.
did you take pix.

no, unfortunately I didn't take pics... The first one was for his dad, not him. The second one (to be done in 6 weeks and counting) is for him.

Here's another alternative.
The dark green stripe is a bit more than 3/4" wide. Given the size of the sett (4"), it would be easy to get enough pleats to have the pleats be no more than 3/4" wide. This would make the back of the kilt very green. That's the option that Turpin shows in his pics.
If you doubled the sett in each pleat, you'd need a lot of fabric to get pleats 3/4" wide. On the other hand, you could use a reasonable amount of fabric (could even be done with the 6 yards that Turpin has) and choose to make half as many quite large pleats. If the pleats were at least an inch and a quarter across, there would be a nice red stripe down each side of the green. I think that would look dandy, myself.
