I have three different 2.5" belts that are more for dress but my most used is my "Cavscout Big 3''er". This is a manly belt for manly men and as such is best avoided by those that do not measure up as "Men of Substance".

I would go with at least 2". I like the look of the wider belts, 2.5 - 3, depending on the wearer.

I think it all depends on size and perspective, the larger you are the thicker the belt should be. I wear a casual belt that is 2" and my dress belt is 2.5".

I agree. For larger guys, a wider belt looks more properly proportionate. A narrower belt makes one look larger. And vice versa for smaller guys.

It's a compensation thing. I wear a belt that is 1" . I don't think that there are really hard a and fast rules reguarding belts. Dressy = larger, casual = smaller. Even our Hamish recommends thinner belts at times. As for the fear of showing up on the kilt DON'T list, don't worry been there they didn't take away any of my kilts as punishment.

I think it's a matter of proportion and preference. I'm 6' 1" and I like the way my 3" belt looks here:

Indeed it is. Great-Great Granny was a Gilmore.

Oh, and the brown belt is also of the 2" breed.
