Kilt Belt Width
I'm looking to get a kilt belt and I'm undecided about what width I should get. Its going to be somewhere between 2" and 2 1/2". Most of the kilt buckles seem to be for belts somewhere in between those sizes. Can you use larger belt buckles on smaller belts (ie a 2 1/2" buckle on a 2 " or 2 1/4" belt)? I'm probably not going to get a ton of belts so i figured I would get one with the most flexiblity for future buckles. What kilt belt width have you guys found is the best?

Mine is 2 inches wide, and works great.

When it's your first kilt belt...just get a "standard" 2 1/4" belt, all (kilt belt) buckles will fit.
*cough...cough* I sell them

I'd agree with Robin. Start with a 2.25" or even 2". That will be a belt that can be used in conjunction with the shorter casual kilts as well as with the longer traditional style kilts (though the 2" would be a tad on the narrow side for the traditional).
I believe though that as the length of the kilt increases the width of the belt should increase in order to maintain a visual balance in proportions.
When I wear my casual kilts which are 22", I wear a 1.75" or 2" belt. When I go to my Traditional kilt (24" + ), I use the 2.5" or wider belt.
These are my personal "guidlines" that I believe help keep the outfit looking neat and balanced.

I have four belts. Two of them are the ones you see all the time with the vecro adjustment, 2.25" wide, and a plate style buckle. I have one black and one brown. They both have been of good service to me. But, as I wear my kilts more of a casual or smart-casual manner, these styles were a bit too "costumey" for me. So, I ordered to high quality belts from Cavscout, one brown and one black with plan roller buckles. They are both in 2" and I could NOT be happier with them.

Mine is 2" I believe, and it works great with my buckle. Like you are planning on doing, I only have one belt and buckle right now (until I can get some more money). I'd agree with the posts above, a 2-2 1/2 would be perfect

Both mine are 2.25" & I've found them to be very versatile.

And when you're done messing around with the kiddie belts, step up and get yourself a Cavscout, 3", two prong, roller buckle truck puller!!
Now, now, don't start throwing things! I also own two 2 1/4" trad style belts.

Thanks for all the feed back. Do buckles made for larger belts (ie 2 1/2") work on say a 2" belt?
