I recently purchased a kilt from FC ordered on 11/24 and received on 11/28. Very fast.

I checked their online stock availability first. Typical for off the rack sellers, not just FC: “Many tartans available!” But of course only a third of them are in stock in my size. Hint: In this price range, you won’t sell what you don’t stock.

The kilt is Cameron -- they don’t say, but it is Cameron of Erracht rather than Cameron Clan. Pleated to the sett.

The kilt is enjoyable for the price, particularly the 3-inch deep pleats. Generally the other economy kilts I own are only two inches. It has more weight than I expected, a good thing. The lining is (unnecessarily IMO) sewn down at the bottom but this does not interfere with the hang (as it does in some other economy kilts).

I followed their sizing instructions -- and received a kilt that was slightly too big. Perhaps some of their kilts size down as they say but my particular example sizes up.

The straps and buckles were in my opinion very cheap. And WHY do some economy makers insist on the two right side straps being on the belt line? Under a belt. It makes no sense to me. I removed all of the straps and for the moment converted the kilt to Velcro. Much better. I may install decent straps in the correct positions later.

I’m awaiting delivery of one of their sale Black Watch kilts. Since this may be old stock I’ll find out if it sizes up or down. Another Hint: Not good to make your customers guess.

    Frugal Corner

I'm looking at it as the opposite of SWK also. I'm currently in between sizes and am almost a 42. I just ordered two kilts from FC yesterday. I've gotten several notes back from them, via e-mail, confirming their in-stock inventory. The two kilts are 13 oz. MacLeod of Harris and a Cameron of E. If what others are saying about them now, I should have my kilts by the end of next week. It would be great as we are leaving on the 20th of Dec. for Chicago to spend the Holidays with family.

I'm curious. How tight is the weave on Frugal Corner's material? Some fabric is really tightly woven and some isn't. I have a SWK I traded for and the truth is that it isn't as tight a weave as I would have liked. Is FC's material essentially the same stuff or not?

The weave on my FC Hunting Mackintosh feels tighter than my SWK Black Stewart. However, the weave on my brother's SWK USMC is more similar to the weave on my FC, so I think it may depend on the tartan you're getting what the weave is.

I ordered from them a few weeks ago so I'm anxious to hear people's reactions. The order confirmation said it would 6-8 weeks and I can hardly wait.

Same with my FC Hunting Stewart and my SWK Black Stewart. The FC appears to be a tighter weave... but i've also heard that they come from the same places. Perhaps its just a quirk of the Black Stewart?

As for the sizing, i've had the same thing. My 36" model is on the smallest hole on the buckle, and my waist has now gone up to about 37"...

Can't speak to the FC kilts but I have fabric from them in Clergy and Robertson, and they are both looser weaves than any of the SWKs I have felt.
