    Heya,

I am 6' 0" with a 31" waist, and have a great kilt that is 60" in width. When I put it on and place the ends over my shoulder, it tends to leave a ton of material on both ends, far more than a foot, and enough that I've been able to tie them together without the use of a brooch.

My guess is that a great kilt with 54" width would fit.

I'm 6'2", and have a belted plaid, in 60" wide wool tartan ("Maple Leaf"). The 60" width allows me to wear it over my head, if needed. Form what I've read on this website, 4 to 5 yards/meters should be plenty.

Also: check my posting "MacNaughton Ancient tartan", under the For sale section, if you are interested in getting 60" wide, 100% wool fabric, 12oz weight, in this tartan, at a cheap price. We 'only' need peole to commit to buying up to another 8 yards, to meet the 30yd min., requirwed, fro the custom weave.

I'm 6' 1" and long from the waist-up and a 58-inch wide strip is not wide enough for me unless I make the pleated part REALLY short.

My great kilt is 60" by 8 yards - I never get cold or wet from the knees up. I am 5'10.5" and 38" waist. What's up with all you skinny guys?

The "maker" of my great kilt misunderstood the literature describing the measurements (essentially 54 - 60" wide X 6 yds long) and sent me the tartan measuring 108" wide X 3yds long. At first I cpmplained, but while preparing it for wear for the first time, I discovered that it didn't take much time to hand-pleat and I liked the extra cloth over my long back that allowed me to come up with a variety of ways to drape the plaid portion. The company eventually went out of business, but I liked their products.

    I'm 5-10", 34 in waist.
54", at 5 yards was more than adequate, with enough to pull over my head as a cloak.

[QUOTE=Ted Crocker;524887]And don't forget that the original belted plaids were also worn higher on the thigh with the leine or shirt actually hanging down passed the bottem of the plaid. That would have given a great deal more to work with on the top end.

Please tell us more about this shirt thing that hangs down past the bottom of the plaid, because this is not what I understood.
Also the 54inch wide will be ok but probably won't go over the head, but this can only be a problem if your going authentic.
