I got mine at a Tractor Supply Store for about $1.00 each, I believe it was called a horse blanket pin. I think one of the vendors on the board sells them too.

Pin pointing down-- that way if it pops open it won't fall off. (My kilt pin is silver, so I have a vested interest in keeping it.)

Additionally, you can wear the kilt pin at a 45 degree angle. I think Riverkilt started this and many of us really like the way it looks.

bottom right corner, pinned only to the outer apron. make sure it looks cool by standing in front of a full-length mirror. if uncool, adjust. if unsure, seek advice from female

Khehehe, god knows how you'd end if if you seeked a womans opinion, best ommitt that bit of advice, less you want pink or feathery Kilt pins adorning the front of your Kilt....!

That is correct. It's only real purpose (other than decoration) is to weigh down the outer apron. If you pin the kilt shut, you'll affect the swing (not to mention, get dirty looks from the kilt police).
