Actually, I was just thinking of doing that. Now to find a leather punch!

I've tried it all on and it works/fits fine (chain strap for today). Sitting down isn't a chore anymore (yay for a sporran with weight).

I've heard all about the 'belt loops' not being for your belt. Bah humbug. I always put my belt and sporran both through it. Otherwise, my belt keeps rising up until there's no kilt under it and it's wrapped around my rib cage. I suppose it's different if my kilt weren't thinner at my gut than my hips.

I try to wear my sporran three, no more than four fingers below my belt. Think I read this somewhere. Probably subjective to your size, but it works for me. The Larger the sporran the higher I wear it.

I don't use the belt loops for my sporran strap.
It's easier to slide the sporran to the side when driving/dancing that way.
I've never had my sporran slip down, even when heavily laden.

You can also upgrade the chain. See this thread: Upgrade you sporran chain

I was having issues with the links of the chain catching the apron. The chain has links that have sharp edges and using a welded chain makes it a lot smoother and doesn't have any sharp edges to catch the appron.

    Welcome to the forum.

I do not have belt loops on my kilts. I own Craigie Originals sporrans and kilt belts. Craigie's kilt belts are lined with the loop half of a hook and loop fastener (similar to Velcro.) This causes the belt to cling (not stick) to the tartan. (I have never had their belts ride up off my kilt.)

When I wear a kilt belt, I use their sporran sling to attach the sporran to the kilt belt. The sling loops around the belt on either side of the buckle and keeps the sporran at the right height.

If I am not wearing a belt (as when a waistcoat is worn) I use their sporran belt, which rides comfortably on my hips. The leather belt does not rub on the kilt like a chain does.

    Craigie's website is http://www.sporrans.com/

The belt loops on the back of the kilt are too wide to be just for the sporran belt. I put my kilt belt through those and let my sporran belt ride on my hips. Welcome to the boards, Shardz!

I second (or third, or however) the welcome. Leather punches with various size holes can be had from craft stores such as Michales, Hobby Lobby, etc. They are handy for lots of stuff! I actually wound up shortening my leather strap! (ordered one for a 40" waist, mine is 37-38), and even in the smallest setting it is still way too long (and I'm 6'5"). I also bought a pkg of two part hollow rivits, and just cut off the too long parts and re-riveted them. I like the post about being able to reach it comfortably and keeping the kilt down in a stiff breeze. Sounds like good guidelines to me
