    Info. on sporran wearing

    Hey guys,
Well I got my first kilt awhile ago and I finally found a sporran on e-bay that was a great deal. I got a black sporran and belt and a kilt pin for 45 bucks. Now it is just a casual sporran and I plan on getting another one later that is more formal and more detailed. My question is, after putting everything on
how low do you usually wear your sporran? I have seen guys wearing them really high and others very low. I guess that must be all up too the wearer.

Welcome Mike. Basically, you want the sporran out of the way; i.e., not limiting your movement. If it's bothering you, it's probably too low (most people where the sporran too low, rather than too hight). The basic rule of thumb is that the top of the sporran in worn 4 finger widths below the bottom of your belt. You may also want to check out the pics section to see some examples. I hope that helps.

    My rule if thumb is...

Low enough that it doesn't rub against the belt buckle
    and
High enough that it doesn't interfere with walking.

Sporrans come in numerous shapes and sizes. An exact dimensional location isn't possible. I tend to judge subjectively from what I don't like.

    Don't know if that helps.

Same here. I wear it just low enough so it doesn't rub against the buckle when I am standing. Any lower and it becomes a pain to walk with.

For whatever reason, the rule of thumb that has formed itself in my brain is that "It is not a figleaf," meaning not too low as to be mistaken for one.

I like the sporran slings apposed to the full sporran belts. I dont know if anyone in here is a fan of them. To me though, they seem more comfortible. I dont have a very good sporran belt though, maybe thats the problem

Cavscout makes great sporran straps. I don't even wear chains anymore since I got the strap from him.

Does anybody else now have a weird idea for a leaf shaped sporran stuck in their brains?

    Cheers

Actually, I can’t get the image of wearing the sporran without the Kilt, out of my brain.
