Excellent, good outcome, just as it should be.

Geoff - mazel tov on your choice of garb. My wife is Jewish and I wear a kilt to Temple (Reform) all the time. The only comment I ever got was from the Temple President after one Yom Kippur service when he told me I was improperly dressed for not wearing a sgian dubh.
I find our Jewish friends much more tolerant in many things, not just clothing.

Geoff, it's nice how family can suprise us in nice ways. The fact that your brother-in-law recognised the fact that you were dressing up to look nice for your guests (You didn't need to dress up for us) just goes to show how nice it is to have family. Glad to hear that your Thanksgiving went well.
You are correct about us being a big (mostly) happy family here. Sure we like to "strongly" debate such earth-shattering issues as "to the sett or to the stripe" but in the end it's nice to know that we could raise a pint (of coffee cup) with anyone here. Thanks to both the moderators and the members here for keeping the site as we have all come to expect it.

When I return home, hopefully Christmas eve, I plan to wear my kilt for Christmas at the in-laws. They are really great people, but I am nervous and hope I have the same experience that you did.

Glad all went well! My son and I decided to show up kilted at my in laws house this Thanksgiving all went well as well. On one hand it is just a kilt, on the other hand it is a kilt.

Geoff I do believe your brother in law was being very tongue in cheek. I am amazed no one else caught that or were you being a shmendrik? I believe that is the right use of the word.![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

MrBill
He was being tongue in cheek, but by his big grin, he was also saying in effect, whatever you want if it makes you happy. We have a number of differences, but have both long since decided that we are both mensches (yiddish meaning stand up guy) and the rest doesn't matter.
