Having words put into my mouth (a most unsanitary practice) by reporters on several occasions your thesis seems to be a most logical one.

Thanks, this gives us some more insight into the making of "regimental" kilts.

My 16-year-old, the future rock star (think Keith Moon without the half-gallon of Beefeater and all the clomethiazole), just saw this thread and has announced with no ambiguity or room for discussion that his first album will be titled, "Kilts for Idi Amin."
My son is a perspicacious young man.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Two years ago I had an opportunity to visit Uganda. Later I watched The Last King of Scotland. Having been in some of the places where it was filmed (like Kampala and the Entebbe airport) added to the emotion of the film for me. It's well worth watching.

Tell him I'll be expecting royalties and an autographed copy for the inspiration.

3 days to make a kilt (which is definitely reasonable), but then estimated the total working time at 10 hours
I don't know Barb, 10hrs might be pushing it, but almost possible. I was chatting with the kilt maker employed by Dartmouth's Scottish Lion about a year ago. He'd been a kiltmaker for Her Majesty's Armed Forces. He told me that while he was apprenticed it was common for him to be ordered to have a kilt ready for the next morning. I watched him work for a bit. He used the pleat first then sew method and probably employed some shortcuts.
