Its quite amusing how England grinds to a halt when they get a little fall of snow as they get so little snow that they do not invest on contingency plans to deal with it when it does occur.
Here in Scotland it is very much business as usual, I have been out hillwalking in my Blacklader kilt this afternoon.

It's not so much grinding to a halt as too much sliding sideways that stops the traffic.
My husband reported that the roads were like a skating rink this morning, with some idiot drivers traveling along with barely two yards between their front bumpers and the rear of a car being driven along carefully.
The local TV news regaled us with footage of lorries vans and cars which had come to grief in the icy conditions, and intrepid folk who had walked to work through the snow.

This was my back garden trampoline about 9 am, with the first snowfall on it. No. I did not clear it off and have a go, I might have shattered.

Hamish, what a fabulous looking snow covered neighborhood.
I was hoping that it would snow again soon, especially after the arrival of my What Price Glory Gordon, but when I tried it on and found it to be too big I hope we don’t have any snow until its return sometime next week.

Wow. That much snow would bring our area to a halt and cause mass evacuations!
Stay warm, safe and indoors. Don't panic unless you see woolly mammoths in the streets!

Just like the southern US. A little bit of snow and everthing stops. 4 to 6 inches for us is just a little lake effect. Checked the ski area I frequent here, 144 inches so far this season!

I never recall seeing that much snow from my time in Sussex. Yeah we get a lot of snow here in Canada but with the plows, salters and winter tires it's just a momentary nuisance unlike those that are just not prepared for it. Was sent a poem today that I wish to share:
It's winter in Canada
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At thirty-five below.
Oh, how I love Canada
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Canada
I'm frozen to the friggin' ground!
