Fantastic!!!
Are you thinking of doing another one? If so, get yourself some 16 oz tartan, and I think you'll find it a real dream to work on compared to the 10 oz.

Congratulations! This is the proof that kiltmaking is not so complicated if you have Barb's book in your hand. Speaking from my own experience.
I like the breeze between my knees

Lee, well done congratulations, I'm really pleased you got it finished in time for Burn's Night. It looks well , and it's very nice to see the photo diary as well.
Good luck with the next one!! after all you can't just leave kiltmaking at a single kilt, take it from me!!

Thanks Barb... (big cheesy grin!) I really do appreciate all the help and the book was well worth every penny (cent)!
Now - am I thinking of doing another one....??? That's the million dollar question! Well - if I EVER found enough 'MacGillivray Ancient Hunting Muted' in ANY weight - then YES YES YES I would! ... (he starts to daydream) and if I found it in the 16oz - WOW - lets not even go there....!!! The issue for me is that the kilt/tartan I really want is one of those rare ones that has the mill making a length specially - I dont suppose anyone has a lenght lying round they are interested in selling.....?
So - if I found the right tartan in 16oz - yes - but I'd have to buy in the proper tailors canvas too! ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
For now - I'm toying with a custom sporran idea - to go with my new PV 'Scottish National' heavy weight that I've bought for the Calcutta match at Twickenham this year.... a rugby sporran - of sorts. Depends how I get on with my raw materials on eBay! If I manage to do something expect to see another post from me....

Well - its only been a fortnight and YES I am finding myself thinking - what can I do with all this free time each evening?! I feel guilty that I'm not stitching a kilt... ;) So maybe your right - but its a real labour of love...
Others on XMarks have described the journey - and its true - you start out full of enthusiasm and cant wait to get on with it, then you get stuck into the day to day working, then you hit a snag or two and if feels like you'll never get it finished - and then one day you walk back to your lenght of material - and its gone - and you can see a kilt lying there - just needing that last bit of love and attention.. its the home straight!!! LOL....

It's really not that frightening a cost - D.C. Dalgliesh will custom weave a single kilt length of 16 oz tartan for under $400. If you're sewing your own kilt, and don't have to pay someone to stitch it up for you, it's _definitely_ worth it!

I agree you did a fantastic job. 16 oz fabric is a lot easier to work with and the kilt will feel very different to wear.

Well - I've mailed DC Dalgleish for a quote.... ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Exciting....
Oh and I picked up a leather day sporran on Ebay for £12 last night - so my rugby sporran is coming along - dont have the skill or time to craft from scratch at present.
