    Hmmm...not this one!

I do like your quotation, however!

These days, maybe we should add "pipe bands"..."Only young boys, some virgins, and pipe bands wear white socks".

And, yes, to you white socks fans (must be from Chicago? tee-hee!)...wear 'em well...BUT, I'll still secretly cringe when I see white socks! Us girls seem to have a built in fashion police system! But, of course, wear what you like to wear, wear what makes you happy!

You've finally cleared it up for me. As a Northsider I thought all this brouhaha was about the White Sox, but that no one on the forum knew how to spell. Around here, only baseball would ignite this much passion.

Boy...am I behind the times...still wear white athletic sox with jeans...one reason, they're the only quality sox available here in the boonies. WalMarche' sells the colored sox that are so thin you could spit through them....guess I'll have to lumber off to the big city.

Wonder if anyone makes athletic sox in solid colors....??

And what's up with this board?? Now you've got me worrying about my sox color when I'm in jeans??? I can hear my mother giggling from her watery grave....

Gosh -- I've never read this much (here and other threads) animosity towards white socks.

Jeans and white socks. What is so wrong with that?

White socks with black pants and black shoes - bad.

Black socks and sneakers. Eek! and wearing shorts? worse.

I think "balance" and "coordination" of color (including black and white) should be the basis and not just an avowed aversion to achromatic accoutrements apparently-adjudged as abnormal and atypical or just plain awful it appears.

When I think of white socks and jeans, my mind's picture is of a James Dean type with jeans to his ankles, white socks, a "hard-guy" white t-shirt with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in one sleeve, and a ducktail haircut. Quite an iconic figure in the '50's. Don't think the look would go over so well now.

So socks are to match your outfit, right?
