    Thumbs up Two thumbs up!

As a longtime fan of the comics, I really enjoyed this movie. Honestly, it came out better than I thought it could. Having read the books there were parts that I really anticipated seeing on the big screen. In most cases the film succeeded with a faithful jump from comic book page to screen. Are there some cuts and changes? sure, but overall I thought it was a great adaptation of a work that has long been considered un-filmable.

If you have not read Watchmen, It's a dense, layered and complicated story, both in the original comic and in the film, different folks take varied things away from it, your mileage may vary!

A spellbinding movie. The Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco currently has a Watchmen exhibit. Have a look: http://g4tv.com/video_detail.aspx?video_key=36976

I liked the ending, because it is more believable than Moore's original story.

Really? Let me try this again...really? Now while a giant alian squid vagina monster is far out...that would undoubtedly moved mankind towards unity...nuclear warfare that is blamed on a superhero gov't agent would realistically only...and can realistically only...lead to nuclear warfare between super powers. Nah...don't buy it...people aren't that smart or thoughtful towards their fellow man, we'd all be toast.

opinions aside, let's mind our spoilers in the event that others reading this intend to see the movie or read the series.

when i made the initial post in this thread, i added no spoilers to the title...

Whether that's true or not, it hardly matters (in my mind). The way I see it, the whole thing is [based on] a comic. There's so much in it that's not "believable" anyway... Rorschach's mask, the existence of Dr. Manhattan, removing the term limit for Nixon etc.

I had a similar problem with the show Heroes (though it was more about continuity than reality...) until I remembered that it's a show in comic book style. Then I just let it go.

The new ending doesn't work because it is not supportable by what came before it in the movie. In a Q&A with the screenwriters (Creative Screen Writing Podcast, highly recommended), one of the writers discussed how the scene that set up the new ending was cut. As it is presented in the movie it would not led to peace as described but rather an escalation of conflict. He is hoping to see it in the director's cut since it was in every rough cut of the movie but the final print.
