As someone who grew up in a redneck town, I feel as though I understand your frustration. I will say, the question about if you had just come from a wedding wasn't all that bad, but the rest were. It's a byproduct of a systematic ignorance that is all too common in our country.
But, to play devil's advocate, you'll be in no better a position to educate the masses about the kilt and be a most proactive ambassador! Like I said, I grew up with rednecks, and if you know how to deal with them (us), you'll find that they, like the rest of us, enjoy being comfortable and having a good time.
Plus, in my experience, many of the aforementioned "cracker backwoods rednecks" tend to be of pan-Celtic origin. You might find a softer ear if you keep that in mind.

What a shame!! I've never had that bad of an experience. Have had stares and some dumb and rude comments, as we all have had....but touching my kilt....death sentence! Hope you never have to go through that again.

My understanding about being a Redneck is, A hard working person out in the sun and there neck gets red from the sun. That's is just what I heard. Now, let's just say what the people at the B-party are. They have no class, no respect for people, and they don't care about no one, but themselves. That's just my 2 cents.

That sucks about the treatment you received with the 'rednecks'. I have to say that many of my friends are rednecks and me being the non-conformist in the bunch would come to the party with Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull or some else to kinda just bug them. I would bet that many of the rednecks want a kilt just like yours, just are afraid of the peer pressure. Good for you for not caving and sticking it out. What matters is did you have a good time or not. Hopefully you did.

The most I usually get from anyone are rude comments from people who are looking to be asses anyways so I don't even bother to respond. Since I have been wearing it around in my community most people recognize me and have good things to say if they even bother noticing. Had my kilt out for St. Pats weekend and only one person was ignorant enough to try to get their hand up to do some checking. I didn't even get a chance to respond as my buddy, watching him approach me laughing with his mates, told him to remove it or be removed. (he's 6'3" and 220) Gramma always told me it was good to have friends in high places. Even if its only 8 inches higher!

Sounds like you messed well with what minds they had to be messed with.
Good job.

I do agree with Colonel MacNeal,
use something to define their character or caliber, instead of a
term like 'redneck.'
If they were black, you might as well just use n***er.
And that's just not right, is it?
I would be offended but, Oregon you say?
