Alas, this only works in NON-traditional square dancing; meaning, not following the traditional dress code (which happens more in LGBT groups and conventions) and where anybody can dance any position (belle or beau)...
When I wear my kilt to my square dancing - I have no problems whatsoever. If don't wear it, they start asking me why not!
It is quite exhilirating as it is challenging. By this point, the dancers will have a working knowledge of about 100 calls/patterns.
Right now I'm dancing at a level that's about 300 calls. heehee

That was a bit of an understatement Mein!
I don't I will feel so apprehensive about those 64 bar square set SCD dances anymore (at least we know ahead of time where we are going and what we are doing!)
You and your set looked like you were more than up to the challenge!
In my non-traditional square dance world, it could be anything!
I would be nervious to go squaredancing in a kilt. Have to make sure it was a heavy one and make sure I was non-traditional.

Aye -- square dancing unfortunately has some image PR problems. But once you discover it, it is such a wonderful activity - it engages your mind and your body and allows you to socialize at the same time. It keeps you sharp and provides aerobic exercise especially when it's 'hot hash' as seen in the YouTube movie. I was in a great square and we were up to it.
For the caller, it is like solving a Rubik's cube -- dancers start at their 'home' positions, the caller mixes the dancers all up and he then resolves the square to get them back to their home position.
Watch this next YouTube video of mine from the same convention that was held in DC a few weeks ago. There's probably about 500 people in this one!!! It's a blast to be part of it!
This particular style of square dancing is not very common so people always look forward to getting a chance to do it!
Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for evangelizing for square dancing, Mein! It is good, low-impact aerobic exercise that constantly engages the mind--we also call it thinking-dancing. And it's even more fun in a kilt!
