So you think you could wash a suit in that washer, instead of drycleaning it? That's assuming that you tested it to see if the colors wouldn't come out if it got wet.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I have a Whirlpool front loader that has an "Ultra Hand Wash" setting on it. If I recall, I can also turn off the spin cycle. That said, I put all my hose in with the regular wash and hang them to dry, and they don't shrink on me. I have a tank that's been through a few winters of snow shoveling, and it's a little too big for me in all directions. I can risk messing it up a bit if it comes to that. I may give this technique a whirl.

Did you baste the pleats before washing, though?

    Regards,
    Rex.

No, but I also have a kick - butt Ironing table and a great iron. It takes me less time to iron each pleat by hand than it would to baste and then iron.

Hand washing your Kilt is very doable. I did it for years. But that is a whole 'nother thread.

hey guys, remember that "Dry Cleaning" is not really Dry. The only difference is they use a liquid chemical instead of water. But it still goes into a big front load washing machine and is tumbled just like at home.

It's called "Dry" because the chemical evaporates so fast that the clothes are dry when you take them out of the washer. You don't need a separate machine to do the drying of the clothes.

Just curious...why can't you wash a kilt by hand, blot it somewhat dry/damp and let it air dry as described above?

I'm not buying a new washer/dryer anytime soon...

Are you serious?? Because that would require that we stand over it, lightly swooshing it around in the barely soapy water, and doing it ourselves, when we could be here, reading and posting messages, exchanging ideas on how to do stuff ourselves!

    Rex.

So you could probably hand wash a "dry clean only" suit... Interesting.

Anyway, out in the cactus jungle, I depend on having the thirty to fourty gallons of gray phosphate water per load out of my old top loding washer, and I don't have a dryer, so hang in there DWFII; it's not that bad.
