You have all given good advice...
I have checked the forum sponsors looking for the right kilt. I am now (more) realistic about my size and am taking some very sad and scary measurements. I have four more days of school left so my kids don't want to see these white Minnesota legs, but I do plan on following Nulty's plan of wearing my kilt on casual day as well as for tech days in the theater.
It seems to be the tartan vs. canvas or denim issues to deal with. Seems the tartans have a greater appeal, but my Clan MacLellan is a rare find.
All good advice, I am here for life.

Utilikilts hold their value well.
Get the true measurements of the kilt (the tags aren't always correct) and tell us the color then put it up for sale on the for sale forum. Chances are you can get much of your money back for the kilt that doesn't fit and reinvest in a kilt that does.
That's what I did when I "outgrew" my Utilikilts.
Attraction is immediate delivery - no jones - and that is unwornm, or barely worn.
Give it a shot and see what happens.

Can you describe what sort of Kilt you are looking for?
It will give us a better idea where to point you.

Chub -- welcome from another Gent of Substance (same measurements as you).
If you're looking for a tartan kilt, I heartily endorse the Stillwater standards or the USA Kilts casual. Since you're going to be working in your kilt, you'll probably want some something you can throw in the washer.
And be sure to join the Gentlemen of Substance social group!!!

WOW, who knew there so many designs?
I like the Freedom Kilt custom fit possibilities. I guess I am looking for black, since it will have to double as a roadie outfit. THat rules out a Tartan, plus as a MacLellan my Tartan is hard to find for cheap. I might need two :-)
LIkely a black canvas or denim with nice pleats, pockets and washability.
I feel so welcomed by the men of substance and teaching community.

CR - don't rule tartan out completely - SWK does a Nightstalker that is predominantly black, then there is the Highland granite tartan or even the Pride of New Zealand - this is it:

Stillwater Kilts has a solid black kilt in their economy line, a nightstalker in their standard line, both made in acrylic so they are machine washable. Plus they are located in Minneapolis as well.

The only tip I can give is to get a traditional high fitting kilt, one that starts above your belly. Trousers and low fitting kilts have to be held on by a belt at an angle under the belly. The thing is to feel comfortable, and because of that you can look great in a high fitting kilt.

As said earlier in this thread go to Stillwater kilts. I just bought a standard and a heavy weight they are both top noch. When I buy again though it will be a heavy weight, they are great. I believe they are what you are looking for.
