If you check at your local yarn shop, not one of the chain stores, they have special cleaners for wool. Soft and easy on the wool and many have conditioners to protect the wool.
If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

Haberdasher? This is Topeka, KS, we're talking about here!
Actually, we have a boatload of western wear store in the area. Western wear means cowboy hats more expensive than our family car. I bet they could've helped me.
I put about an inch-and-a-half of tepid water in the kitchen sink with just a bit of Woolite. Then I lightly brushed it with a soft toothbrush. Finally, I drained the sink and brushed it one more time with just tepid water. Worked like a charm.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

The gent down the street that reconditions Stetsons calls himself a haberdasher - the word has fallen out of use, but the trade is still out there.
Congrats on your good results - I was about to say Woolite, but I got laughed off the thread last time I mentioned it.
Cheers, ColMac

When I needed my Spanish-American War era campaign hat blocked in a Montana Peak, I went to the local western wear store. Not only did they block it, but they also managed to take some of the salt and sweat stains out from a reenactment I did back in 2001.

When i recieved my glen from the band, it was gross, the white dicing was half yellow. I took it to a dry cleaner who had some knowledge of highland attire. It turned out great, although it lost some of it's rigidness. The main thing is to just to be able to wear it and not have to worry about someone else's sweat sitting on top of your head.
