It is funny how one thing follows another. I won a 8 yard, 13oz, wool Flower of Scotland kilt on eBay for £34 (including postage) about a month ago. I have various black/white/grey/plain/fur sporrans. My wife bought me a lovely pair of brown brogues. I made a brown belt and brown sporran strap (Tandy - so easy), but had no brown sporran. I was really starting to despair; all the prices of the sporrans I liked started at over £100. So this could be a Godsend.

I have only just placed the order, but of course it is the middle of the night there so I won't get a final invoice till tomorrow at the earliest. I'm starting to Jones already.

    Regards

    Chas

One note: apparently they can't ship the kangaroo pouches to the US. You'd have to have it sent to someone in Australia who could then ship it to you.

Thanks for sharing your opinions and photo. It does seem a bit smaller than your counterparts Sporrans, but they aren't 6'5:-) The looks of these are nicer than the cheap leather ebay stuff. Forrester, where did you get the sporran hangers that you use?

When I said it was smaller I meant two things, that it looks to me somewhat smaller externally than all my other sporrans, and that it definitely does not have the internal capacity of the others. So when I wear that one I pretty mush have to wear the matching belt pouch (I bought them together to do that anyway) but then I also have to wear a narrower non-standard kilt belt because the belt pouch will not accept any belt more than 2" wide through its loop.

I have several different pairs of sporran hangers, but got two of the standard plain no gaudy adornments ones from Scotland Yard here in Kentucky for between $10-20 a pair (actually cheaper at the highland fairs). I have a dressier adorned black pair (see some of my album photos) that I bought somewhere off the internet but can't remember where, maybe Oconee Leather works. You can actually google sporran hangers and, aside from a fair number of xmarks references to them, get multiple places that make and/or sell them. Or if you know a friendly nearby leatherworker (we have two harness makers within a couple miles of our house here in horse country) stop in and describe to them what you want and see if they might be albe to make you something a bit more custom.

I will try to get out my sporrans and hangers and post pic of the sporrans side by side with a ruler, and then my sporran hangers as well so you can have a better look.

Found the site for my dressier sporran hangers:

You can customize them with whatever adornments you like with these folks. Some other nice stuff on their site too.

By midnight, Nifty Notions had done their two email billing and I had paid. Shipping is by airmail - with luck I could have it by this time next week. Thanks for the link ChubRock.

As I said in my first post these folk make a very nice looking and lightweight sporran but it seems a little small by comparison to my other sporrans, so I decided to post a photo of 4 other sporrans on either side on the matching sporran and belt pouch I bought from them off ebay. Besides being slightly smaller in size they are also smaller in the interior becasue of the top stitching used to hold the front to the back and narrower from front to back as well. Overall volume is at least a third less than my other sporrans.

The two on the left are standard sized leather casual sporrans and the two on the right are standard dress sporrans, with the belt pouch top center and sporran bottom center, and a ruler stretched across between the bunch.

Someone also was asking about my sporran hangers and what they look like, where I got them, etc... Below is a photo of my sporran hangers, left to right: Black and brown from Scottish Trading Company in Kentucky, and then brown and black with ornaments from Ravenswood Leather works.

    Hope this helps.

Fantastic comparison photos! I think for the small amount of money (and Jonesin' waiting for shipment from AU) it appears to be worth it. I ordered the same larger unit. This will be my first Sporran, but I am sure not my last.
