Pink Gin is best (most traditional, at any rate) made with Plymouth Gin... which isn't a traditional London-style gin at all, though I don't remember what style it is! It's also great on the rocks.

I really like G & T, but only really like Schweppes Tonic, at least compared to that stuff from the multi-button dispensor at the bar -- heaven only knows what brand that is!

Martini: Tanquary Mallaca, if available, plain Tanquarey otherwise... Shaken, no vermouth, olive or a twist. Or, my fav is a Mother Superior. Gin (Tanqueray, of course), shaken, garnish is two miniature prunes. (Thank you, Spider Robinson!)

--> On garnish: I like olives, but really like the anchovy stuffed ones... Bleu cheese is also good!

Gin and It is a nice summer treat, too... Gin and Italian vermouth. Like it with Cianziano Rosso (hope that's spelled properly).

Brian, There's nothing wrong with Compari and soda. I've not tried it with tonic.

I wouldn't say that I love gin, just have a fantastic and excellent friendship with it.

I have been known to partake in the occasional pink gin,gin and tonic, gimlet, or my tipple of the moment, gin and bitter lemon. Plymouth gin would be my first choice, but Booths, or Gordons would come a close second.

The ultimate gin is Plymouth Navy Strength which is 100% proof and 57% alcohol by volume.

It can be spilt on gunpowder and the gunpowder will still ignite!

You ain't had a G&T till you have tried it!

However it is only sold from the distillery and is not as far as I know, available in stores.

My favourite will always and ever be whisky, but when it comes to gin, Hendricks is the only way to travel. I have an ex Hendricks bottle that I use for olive oil in the kitchen . I use cucumber in stead of lemon/lime in my g/t, and I prefer _very_ dry tonics. Schweppes is much too sweet to my taste.

Bombay Sapphire is also good, and I'm sure there are a lot of quality gin's I've never tried. I'm not too keen on Beefeater, to me it tastes too much of high alcohols. Must try Plymouth though, as so many of you recommend it!

Then of course no bar is complete without golden aquavit ... mmm...

I like the strong Juniper taste of Beef Eaters. But now I think I need to try the Hendricks.

I like anything as long as it is over 40%, with lots of ice and tonic, a twist of lemon and served at the end of a hot day. Gordons used to be good before they diluted it so I never touch it now.

    Sandford,

To assist you in your research

    Basil Gimlet

2 1/2 oz. gin (or vodka)
    juice from 1 lime
1/2-1 oz simple syrup (to individual tastes)
    5 large basil leaves
1 small basil leaf (for garnish)

Light crush basil leaves with a quick squeeze in the hand and put in a cocktail shaker.

Add ice, lime juice, simple syrup, and gin

Shake and let let stand 10 seconds

Pour into a cocktail glass and garnish with small basil leaf.

This is "house cocktail" for the summer months.

    Cheers
