Redwing shoes -- mostly work boots and shoes, even many with steel toes. They're great, though not inexpensive. My father and brother wear them as well as I. Long lasting, that's for sure.

I bought a pair of Doc Martin's about 23 years ago I have worn them ever since for work, They have been the best pair of shoes I ever worn. I still have them, but I admit that there are a bit smooth on the sole, Fantastic shoes & I am reluctant to part with them, They feel like part of the family.

Try "Hoggs of Fife" on www.hoggs.co.uk, they will not be cheap, but they will last years. Some of my black brogues from there must be well over twenty years old and are still going strong and are wonderfully comfortable. I think the style goes under the name of "Carnoustie".

Haven't seen any shoes with their name on, though.
Cheers, Graham.
Their "better" footwear is usually found in their catalogue,or probably on the Internet as well these days.

I have several pairs of the brown shoes almost exactly like the ones that you have illustrated above, made by Hoggs. I am wearing a pair now, as I type. The only problem with "commando" soles is that if you have been walking in a spot of mud and then forget,as I do often, to take them off at the door, it looks as though a tractor has gone across the carpet!

Mind you, it hadn't occured to me, but perhaps he even paid a deposit?!
Cheers,
Graham.
There is seldom room for too much charity in the business world and I suspct the shoe maker covered his costs!

You want shoes? I'll give you shoes ...check out this link: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...14906&page=778
This is an ongoing thread (hence starting at the last page) of shoes and reviews of shoes. Some you won't like..."too long!" "too Italian" "not the right colour" "wouldn't look good with a kilt." But many are such classics you might be within rights to say "a kilt wouldn't look good without a pair." At any rate, you can get a sense of what real shoes are like, and about. It's a peek into the wider world...of possibilities.
If that doesn't suit, here's a list of sure-enough makers from around the world along with a fairly comprehensive overview of their wares:

Warning! neither of these threads are for the faint of heart or those who are happy with plastic and foam.
