Thanks for the comments everyone. I have a plain wool green and silk white tie which both go well with the outfit as well as a matching tartan tie. All look good with the outfit. If I'm wearing a tie I'd just decide on the morning of the event which one looks best on that particular day.
I thought a cravat might look better for a wedding? It's a close cousin getting married. The groom is not kilted (terrible, I know!) but will be wearing a ruche/cravat on the day. Some of my younger cousins are wearing green cravats.
oo BoldHighlander... I dont think he wore those hose at The Gathering but I'm pretty sure he wore a tweed of that colour. Also - thanks for posting a picture of his son's Christening. I sort of forget he had an heir!
That's a great outfit McMurdo!
and thanks for the hose recommendations. Top be honest I'd love if I could have green hose with a 3 colour Argyll top (just the fold) resembling my tartan - although I'm not sure if this is within my budget.
I'm trying to find a colour of hose that matches my kilt to an extent. Lovat green seems to not be saturated enough to relate to the main green in the Campbell Ancient. Forrest green is even less saturated. Lovat blue is too light.
I'm sure I'll find somewhere with a more saturated mid-dark green that matches the kilt.

Actually he has 3 children now (2 lads & a 1 lass http://www.ccsna.org/mcm.htm - scroll to bottom for info)
And if I didn't say so before Paul, you wear that tweed well!

Why thank you
I never knew at all... I heard he had one son who was born in 03 or 04 who is his heir.
About the hose - I think lovat green may ruin the outfit but bottle green may subtly bring some colour in very well. I'll order a pair of each to try them out as they're only £6 each... it ends up cheaper than going into a shop and trying/looking at both pairs and then buying one for £15 or so.

I'm 25 and I have in the past associated tweed with older folk.... but honestly, with a kilt it just sort of...makes sense.... and I'm going to wear it!

You look great! I'm early 30s and have a few tweed jackets and it's funny how I get more complements on them vs. other suit-type jackets. And I'm currently in the market for a tweed jacket/vest myself - so good for you!
I second the "loose the tartan pocket square" and agree a traditional tie might go better. However, if your cousins are all wearing the same tie in solidarity or as a family thing, then I don't see why you shouldn't as well if you want to - family over fashion in this case.
Cheers,
Noah

I would either use a green hose to blend with the tie and handkerchief (ps ditch the tartan this should match the tie IMO) Or Use a Charcoal hose to tie into the jacket. I would personally change the hanky and get Charcoal but I tend to be more conservative when formal.

I would say stay away from the matching tie-and-square route, it can be seen as very tacky.

I'm 28 and I wear a lot of tweed, not just when kilted. Although it's not something you see a great deal in youth-oriented high-street fashion, I think that's a good thing. It's a timeless, beautiful fabric. I'd echo Jock Scot's sentiments re. the tie, but the outfit is superb. I'm not surprised to hear that the jacket is barely showing its age~ a good tweed is practically bulletproof and should outlive the man it was made for. THIS is the main reason high-street shops don't sell it; they can't sell you another when it wears out.

I think overall it looks great, as others have said there is no age limit on tweed, or appropriate outfits, so do not worry about that. If you wear it where appropriate then you will look 100 times better than those that rent. I would say for the hose, Lovat Blue, Lovat Green, Maroon, Red, heck even Yellow would be infinitely better than black, you could also wear Charcoal however I would reserve those for a sombre occasion, a funeral for example. Now others have brought up the tie, I tend to wear a wool tie with my kilts, they seem to work well together, the colour you have is good though. Of course if you have a school or regimental tie then you could wear that. You said something about Argyll hose, I think in the right circumstance they can work very well with tweed. As below.

Paul,
1) Sharp looking outfit.
2) I think you could stand some color in the hose; however I'm not experienced enough to know what to recommend.
3) I do not own a tweed jacket; given how sharp everyone looks in them, I feel like I should get one shortly after I get a fine wool kilt.
4) As an aside, what do you call that style of necktie / knot? I don't know if I could pull that knot off, but I'd like to see.
