I would go with the sporran. I don't think a kilt apron looks right without one.

I would also take all of Hamish's advice as well. With it you would have a flawless look.

Kilt Suit - Sporran ?
Your suit is great the way it is. The modern kilt suit does not need a sporran, especially as the jacket pockets can contain all the necessities. However, a plan sporran as Hamish suiggests would not look out of place. So I suppose the answer is - do what pleases you. Personally, I would not wear a sporran.

In the 18th Century, kilts (both great and small), jackets, waistcoats and hose were often made of the same cloth. So the kilt suit has some historical provenance. The neck of the jacket looks somewhat 18th Century hints of a Sherrifmuir. Back then, a sporran, generally hanging from the main belt that secured the kilt but sometimes from a separate strap, was the norm. So a sporran would seem quite appropriate with a 21st century version.
The rule of thumb for sporrans tends to be plain leather for day wear when an Anglo-Saxon lounge suit would be worn; some silver trim and fur for formal day wear when morning dress would be worn; and a full fur sporran with a silver cantle for evening wear (black or white tie).
The first or second option should work well with your suit.
As others have suggested, garter flashes would be good but I am not convinced that a kilt belt is appropriate with a waistcoat
although I increasingly see the two worn together in Scotland, and in the 18th Century they were both worn when the belt held the kilt together.
But you probably know all this already and I am new to this forum so sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs!
Nice suit, by the way
Iain

I'm glad Hamish has stepped in and shown that photo, I have to say that his is the style emulate. loose the belt waistcoat combo, strap a sporran around your waist and wear some flashes to compliment your tie and you are good to go.

I would wear one, for no other reason, than for modesty issues.. It's just something I feel is necessary..

Because of my prejudice against black hose, I would suggest that you try some in the steel grey of the suit itself. Also, what sort of lapels do you have on it? My assumption was a traditional lapel, but it looks like you have more of a military / mandarin / nehru collar, as frequently worn by James Bond villains. How does it look buttoned up entirely? Can we have a shot of that sometime, just for further discussion? I think a sporran is good for many reasons, but I like the idea of sleek and modern.

Lot's of great suggestions here and I'd cast a vote with the sporran as well, but a simple one with clean lines.

careful reading saves time
Or would have...
I went back to the photo. GGibby has kindly provided a link to the jacket his jacket is based on http://www.slaters.co.uk/en/store/pr...language=en-GB
The mannequin photo makes things a little clearer, probably because we aren't distracted by GGibby's mesmerizing gaze... I don't think I would follow Slaters' example for the sporran though- try to find something rectangular and modern and matte black. They ( Slater's) offer a couple of noteworthy and different jacket designs. Thanks for bringing them to our attention, GGibby.
