Kilt suit
Hi - I have been wearing kilts for several years now and have both casual solid colour and several tartan (from the clans on my father and mothers side of the blanket). I also have a green glengarry jacket and vest and a black Prince Charlie jacket and vest. I was watching a video of Celtic Thunder the other day and noticed they close the show wearing a kilt and jacket/vest combo that was in a solid colour (irish) style. My wife loved it. Anyone know where I could get something like that made - It would make a great suit for the office.

Those kilt suits on Celtic Thunder were made by Howie Nicholsby of 21st Century Kilts.

Don't forget that The Wizard of BC has custom made kilt cut jackets available at Freedom Kilts now. You could probably have the jacket, waistcoat and kilt made from the same material exactly like a suit would be with the custom features you would like. You might PM him for more information.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

You've gotten good recommendations here but I'll add another - Matt Newsome (www.albanach.org or www.scottishtartans.org). I SERIOUSLY want a tweed kilt suit from him.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dee. Really, just about any kiltmaker should be able to offer you a solid kilt suit, or a tweed kilt suit. Just ask.
FYI, if anyone is interested in owning the suit pictured here, we are selling the display model:
http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/glen_tilt.htm
The jacket is 44R, the kilt is a 36" waist and 24" length.

'21st Century Kilts' (TFCK) has been mentioned and I can certainly vouch for their expertise as I have five kilt suits from them. That is not to say that other kiltmakers would not be prepared to provide you with something similar and of like quality, but I have experience only of TFCK in this connection.
Here are images of all five:
This one, my first (2000), is in 17oz green Auld Reekie tweed woven by Geoffrey (Tailor), TFCK's parent Company.
Next (2002) came this blue poly-wool suit. [This was at my first meeting with Alex, 'Cesna152Towser'.]
In 2003 I took delivery of this fine grey pinstripe 'business' suit in 12oz worsted.
I ordered this suit to wear at a Highland wedding in Scotland last year. It is in 11oz navy blue/white pinstripe worsted.
This is probably my favourite, also new in 2007, in Brook Tavener Country Tweed 1416.
Take care,
Ham.
