Charcoal Kilt Jacket with Brown Leathers...

I wore brown leathers and a charcoal braemar for quite a long time, mostly out of economy admittedly, but I found it quite suitable nonetheless.

    The Father~Daughter Dance last year...

Drankin' at my wedding last year in a different charcoal argyle from the Tartans Museum... (sorry that piccy's kinda small)

Side Note: my mate James there is shown in his first kilt here that he bought for my wedding! Awesome!

A better shot from a few years ago but showing brown shoes...

    HALF dreadful?

I have a pair of hose that are cream and white argyle, with a red raker. At any distance beyond smelling range, they look to be off white with the red (diagonal windowpane) pattern. Considering the strong emotions cream and white hose so often arouse, I am wondering about these.

Their advantage to me is that they are practically unique, they provide the light color, but they have a pattern. Additionally, the single red yarn goes well with most red tartans.

    But they are mostly cream.

SO, amongst other specific hosiery questions and comments, I thought I'd ask for this more general advice, particularly from the anti-white adherents.

    Deil the Y,

I have to argue with you a little about charcoal and navy- a navy blazer and charcoal flannel trousers makes a fine civilian uniform for millions. However, I much prefer your argyle hose with charcoal and red ( burgundy?) in the small pic.

That would be my strong recommendation: Argyles with charcoal and the predominant color in the kilt. Luckily, there are plenty of grey/charcoal argyles around

I have bought from this second seller and recommend his hose.

Neither one of those pairs of socks looks suitable for wear with the kilt. The first pair certainly looks like it was made for a woman. The second pair looks way too short, and doesn't appear to have a cuff.

With proper British Blue Blood accent: Argue with me, Sir??? Hmph. We shall meet at dawn... My factor will call upon your factor...

I don't know what's gotten into me tonight... I'm feelin' silly.

Seriously, though (kind of)... It's really subjective, so you can argue all you want and you'll still be wrong (j/k). Actually I was thinking along the lines of what colours in fashion actually work with one self, by degree to boot I'm sure. I think it has a lot to do with one's skin tone, and eye and hair colour also probably play a small roll. (Actually that's all I got... the 'serious' aint workin' for me tonight...)

    Just a thought. Graham.

    No harm tae ye...

It "works"... but the green looks better, would you not agree?

FYI: that's definitely NOT to imply that it looks bad, cause a man in a kilt is a man indeed!

That photo, I think, bears out what I was attempting to put into words.

Note that that piper's bottle green hose are a stronger, more saturated green than the green in his tartan, and your navy blue hose are a more saturated blue than the blue in your tartan, so that the hose do not take away from the beauty of the tartans.

Mid-grey hose might have a noticable dulling effect on either tartan, likewise dull green hose for the piper or dull blue hose for you.

It's dark strong colours like navy blue, and dark neutral tones like charcoal grey and black, which are becoming so popular just now for hose.

My only "fashion police" advice would be to have less of those bright red flashes showing from under the turnovers: note that your eye is drawn right to the flashes... just a touch of red there would balance with the red line in the kilt better I think.
