Looks like an older post card--as someone said, you can't see the back. Perhaps what was written is merely the caption on the back of the card. I'm sure someone in business would be more aware. Gay used to mean happy or joyous, and was by no means derogative. Just a thought...

Reminds me of when George Best (of Man U fame) joined the Hibees in the twilight of his career. The Daily Record had a front page photo of him in full Highland dress - the kilt was on backwards, with the pleats to the front !! Whoever let him dress like that needed shot !

I agree that the comment was very uninformed and sophomoric. Anytime somebody says "that's gay" I can't help but to envision a 10 year old group of boys criticizing each other. You'd think that an educated adult would be:
1. More informed
2. More accepting of cultures
3. Better able to express themselves in a more effective way.

On the whole though, I don't think this is making a huge issue over. As the old saying goes..."You just can't fix stupid!"

I agree with Doug, "gay" didn't used to have its current meaning...but it sure looks like the word gay was used as the bloggers choice of a title.

Stupid for sure...but its easy to see how someone with no cultural knowledge could go there from the position of the dancers.

Will be interesting to see how the blog develops....I'm gonna go see if I can post on it.

Peoples insecurities about the unknown... who cares about being gay or not.. that should not be an issue anyway... those are Scottish dancers doing a traditional Scottish dance..

as for the "dude, that's so gay" comment...i say "meh." like i care what a guy working at bookman's thinks....i mean, really, he works at bookman's. granted i used to love going to bookman's pretty much every day when i lived in tucson, but it is a dump of a store overall. although, i would be stoked to have a store like that here in chicago.
