    First Lesson!

    Whoo-hoo!
I had my first lesson and it was great!
I had been learning all I could before so there wasn't a lot that was new, but she went over finger positions, and showed me where I was probably not getting on low G just right so that I could watch for that. Showed me how to do G, D, E gracenotes (which I knew) and showed me how to do a birl and how to practice it.
She told me to practice reading and playing the notes at the bottom of page 21 of the Green Book and we will do a lesson every two weeks. Sounds great to me! (and it doesn't hurt that she's bloody gorgeous!)

Not that you asked for it, but here's my advice...

Since she's a knockout, learn as slowly as you can, and ask if you can get together every week, instead of every other week. Also, make sure to keep your fingers nice and curved, with your fingertips down in the tone holes. That way, she'll have to reach over and take hold of your hands and show you (over and over) proper placement and technique. And finally, seriously, PRACTICE SLOWLY. You don't want to rush through this just to impress a hot chick. There's plenty of time for that later on. When you get to learning tunes, just imagine your tutor while palying "The Brown-Haired Maid", even if she's blonde or red or black or bald.

'Piping's a great thing to do. Welcome to the fold.

My teacher/pipe major is a grizzled old guy. I hate you.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

Mine is not grizzled, but he's been playing the pipes for 60 years or so, and I think the world of him. Still, JimB, I hate you too!
