Never worn them, never will. Much prefer my Church's brogues.

For some reason I only wear them with a PC, otherwise it is standard brogues with daywear or buckle brogues with a doublet and tartan hose. I'm not too keen on the laces digging into my legs and leaving marks. And if you don't tie them firmly you finish up with the laces around your feet after a dance or two.

Never owned a pair, never worn a pair, to me they are just plain Victorian fancy, and absolutely hideous, hire shop trash.

guess you can say I don't like them very much.

But, they are not REQUIRED for piping competitions (unlike the bonnet).

I'm new to kilt wearing, but I don't think I'll ever own a pair. As many have alluded to, Ghillie Brogues are not really a formal shoe...so it may be considered by some a fashion faux pas to wear them with formal attire (though I know many have and do wear them with a PC, etc). I will probably wear a buckle shoe of some sort if I ever get my formal ensemble together...I'm thinking reenactment shoes shined to a high shine with some fabulously gaudy scottish themed buckles!!!

For less than formal wear, I opted with the "standard brogue" which is akin to what we in the US would call a "Wingtip Oxford". My dad was a schoolteacher and wore suits to school more days than not and had a pair of both black and brown wingtips as long as I can remember. When I was a teen, I inherited a hand-me-down pair of his that I wore to church and when dressing up in a suit or slacks. Having a new pair of brogues ties me back to a pair of shoes that I always liked and I think they look much better than the ghillies. I also took some cues from HRH, the Duke of Rothesay!

Having a bit of a high instep, I find them quite comfortable but I have to admit I prefer the look of a standard brogue. I'd rather have a pair of buckle brogues for formal wear.

Formal occasions only, and only because I bought them before finding XMTS. Will not buy another pair when these wear out (which will be a long time coming)

When one would opt to wear ghillies, I wear oxfords or monk straps.

I have both brown and black pairs of ghillie brogues. I wear them when I am more dressed up above the waist than a t-shirt or golf shirt---nice dres shirt, shirt and tie, vest and tie, kilt jacket of any sort, etc.. Depending on my activity I may wear them with a nice sweater. If I am doing outdoors activities like housework, shopping the hardware store, or woodsy hiking where I would tend to be dressed more casually and functionally oriented I default to a pair of hiking shoes (Merrells) or even the scrunch hose hiking boots look.

Having brown and black allows for decent day wear with brown accessories and saving the blacks for slightly more dressy occasions and evening wear.
