Good point MOR and in fact it is something that always looks "not quite right" about converted jackets as the original proportions will have been different. My sheriffmuir doesn't have any external pockets, only internal breast pockets.

My sheriffmuit has pockets under the first layer of the "flaps"!

Echoing what Phil has pointed out, the most successful conversion I have seen used the off cut of the jacket to make patch pockets which placed the top of the pocket up where it should be, thus preserving the proportions of the jacket.

Now that is a nice idea! Just hide the welts... All my schemes had been about cutting above them, or finagling them into flap pockets somehow.

Just to reiterate what jim said, I have seen the USMC Officers Mess jacket cut down well into a Sherrifmuir.

Does anyone have any pictures of what that looks like? I want to try my hand at making a Sheriffmuir doublet for formal occasions.
