If you read my following comments, know first I am not promoting Ghillators and was not a board member October of last year. I personally would not buy them based upon what Steve said above.

I can see that they have there place. They are a specialty, niche item. I don't think that Ghillators are intended for everyday wear. Instead they are for soggy weather to get wet and muddy. Then they can be easily hosed off and dried. Think of it like an Inverness cap. You don't wear it except with rain or the threat of rain.

As a Marketing/Promotions guy I think these are a pretty good product idea. We have all at one time or another regretted getting a nice pair of leather soaked and muddy. Now, I think the design has obvious design problem with the laces. If a hard plastic/metal tube was inserted where they pass thru might help. The average Crocs run $29-39 and thought $39 should have been the target price, but I can see a $10 premium for a specialty croc. However having, in my former life, been a retailer and a supplier retailers need to make a good margin. The is especially true when a product is first introduced, getting the retailer to support the product because they generate profit. I don't mean to say that they should be sold just because they are profitable, first and formost they must be a value and worth the $$.

Hmmm, too bad the Ghillator owner insisted on being such a jerk. Thanks haukehaien for Andrew Lanz's review. It would seem that for those that need to wear ghillie's, these are a possible option.

I see that Sport Kilt are now selling Ghillators. At least this is a retailer that we can all trust.

I do not own either Crocs or Ghillies, but if I needed highland footwear for wet conditions, particularly ceremonial highland footwear, I would surely consider these. That is, if I didn't go with the non-ghillie traditional choice of stout oxfords.


Does anyone wear wellies with their kilt, or LL Bean duck shoes?
