Silk is nice and all but....

I'm assuming your kilt is Davidson. Sometimes (often) the color from one mills differs from the next. My husband's kilt used wool from Batly. I tried to find a silk sash that matched but the red is all orange in comparison to my husband's kilt.

So if you can, try to go with the mill your kilt material came from. If you can't, order swatches!

I understand a wife wanting a sash in the same tartan as her husband's kilt, but is it really that important that the colors match exactly? If your sash is silk, in particular, I don't think anyone would expect it to be in the exact same colors and hues as your husband's heavy weight wool kilt. It's enough that it is the same tartan, it really doesn't need to look like it was all cut from the same bolt of cloth.

Silk would be good, however it really depends on whether it matches the mill who've woven your wool tartan and how that matches up. I'd get a swatch of it and see if it looks like your tartan.
My Campbell Ancient kilt was woven by House of Edgar. I believe Lochcarron make a silk version of the tartan and you'd never guess it was the same tartan. The greens a different shade, the blue's almost a whole different tone and the sett is half the size.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
