No plans to sell them, though I will probably make a couple more at some point. Right now they are my only sgians.

That's an interesting handle for the pattern-welded blade ("rainwater" innit?). For the base of the crown, you might want to do a little scrimshaw since it's a daywear sgian. Otherwise I'd say the founding for a largish jewel of some sort would always be snagging on something.

    :ootd:
The antler was not large and had a significant curve, so I cut it short. I considered putting in a brass spacer then more antler, but wanted to blend out to the width of the blade. The brass seemed like it would work better. By the way carbide end mills cut both brass and antler like butter.

I had thought of a scrimshaw. Have to look into how to do it. Also thought of a thin cabochon with a brass solid wall setting. I could probably make one with the milling machine if I was carefull. My other thought was some sort of button or concho. Still thinking on it.

Anyone have any theories on a way to increase the pattern contrast on the blade?

    Thanks for sharing your work.
First let me say my blade sharpening skills are marginal.

That said the pattern weld blade seems to have taken a decent edge and seems likely to hold it.

The stainless blade was nicely polished, until I gouged it up being impatient, but I haven't been able to put much of an edge on it.

Made a sheath for the antler one. Saturated it with CLP to keep the blade from rusting. Turned it a nice medium brown. Decided on a brass cap, as my test scrimshaw did not turn out so well. May get it engraved eventually. Here are a couple more pictures, plus one for Jock showing the antler crown against a flat surface.
