John,
I'm with you. I think it is quite nice. But I wouldn't wear it in Scotland!

Hmmm,
Not really sure that I get this concept.
I just don't see how you get away from Kilt = Highland or [more broadly] Scottish National Dress. Even non-Scottish district tartans are permutations of a uniquely Scottish tradition.
What is a kilt with English symbolism plastered on it supposed to mean? This is neither fish nor fowl IMHO.
Cordially,
David

David, I take your point but perhaps (without getting too serious) it's an indication that the Kilt is evolving. I don't see this example as a tradtional thing but then I don't see it as a particularly bad thing either. It's a bit of fun maybe and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
I would wear it mind... Although not in Huntly... probably...

Fair enough. I guess I've always pictured the "evolution" of a kilt to look more like TFCK's pinstripe variety- the "mechanics" of a traditional kilt, but clearly (merely?) a garment- devoid of tartan and all the symbolism, history, culture, etc. that tartan brings with it.
I'm sure I'm overthinking this, but isn't a bit troublesome that in trying to create a "new symbol" of English nationalism they've had to appropriate one that is clearly Scottish? Surely English history and culture is richer than that...

If that be the case David, then all contemporary kilts = are not kilts!
